This is one of the fastest-growing treks in Nepal because it offers a “big mountain” experience in a short time. You walk along a high ridge with the massive Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna South peaks right in front of you.
After a short 1-hour drive from Pokhara, you begin your trek at Kande. The trail starts with a climb to Australian Camp, a famous viewpoint. After lunch, you’ll walk through a scenic forest to reach Deurali.
- Walking Time: 3–4 hours
Today you leave the main Annapurna trails and enter a quieter, forested area. The path is a gradual ascent through dense oak, maple, and rhododendron forests. It’s a peaceful day where you can often hear the calls of mountain birds.
- Walking Time: 5–6 hours
The trail continues through the forest, but as you gain altitude, the vegetation changes. You’ll start to see moss and lichen on the trees. Upon reaching Low Camp, the view opens up, providing a stunning look at Mt. Machhapuchhre.
- Walking Time: 4–5 hours
You’ll climb above the tree line today. The trail follows a ridge with spectacular 360-degree views. You will pass through Badal Danda (Cloud Hill) before arriving at High Camp. This is the final stop before the Base Camp.
- Walking Time: 4 hours
The big day! You’ll start pre-dawn (around 4:00 AM) to catch the sunrise. The walk to the Upper Viewpoint and then the Base Camp is steep and rocky but rewards you with a face-to-face view of the Annapurnas. After celebrating, you descend back to Badal Danda.
- Walking Time: 7–8 hours
A steep descent through the forest takes you to Siding, a traditional Gurung village. This route is different from the one you took up, offering a “circuit” feel to the trek and a chance to experience local village life.
- Walking Time: 5–6 hours
After a final mountain breakfast, a local jeep will pick you up for the 2–3 hour drive back to Pokhara. You’ll have the afternoon free to relax by Phewa Lake or enjoy a celebratory meal.
