Located in the lower Solukhumbu region, this is a moderate trek famous for what Sir Edmund Hillary called his favorite view of Everest. It’s perfect for those who want to see the world’s highest peak but prefer lower altitudes and quieter trails.
Highlight: A stunning panoramic sunrise from Pikey Peak (4,065m) where you can see six of the world’s fourteen 8,000m peaks (Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, etc.).
Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Use this day for trek preparation, gear rentals in Thamel, and an evening briefing with your guide.
A long but scenic 7–9 hour drive. You’ll follow the B.P. Highway along the Sunkoshi River, eventually climbing into the hills of the Solu region. You’ll spend your first night in the quiet mountain village of Dhap.
The trek officially begins with a gentle walk along a ridgeline. You’ll pass through Sigane and reach Jhapre, a village perched above a deep valley. On a clear day, you can catch your first glimpses of Everest and Numbur Himal from the village monastery.
- Walking Time: 4–5 hours
The trail climbs through high-altitude forests of rhododendron and pine. You’ll pass ancient Mani stone walls and yak grazing pastures. The sunset at Base Camp is particularly stunning as the light hits the white peaks.
- Walking Time: 6–7 hours
The highlight of the trip. You’ll start a pre-dawn climb (about 1 hour) to the summit. From the top, you can see eight of the world’s fourteen 8,000m peaks, including Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Makalu. After the sunrise, descend through alpine meadows to the beautiful Sherpa village of Junbesi.
- Walking Time: 6–7 hours
Instead of rushing out, take a day to hike to Thupten Chholing Monastery (approx. 2 hours from Junbesi). This is one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the region, home to hundreds of monks and nuns. Return to Junbesi for the night.
A pleasant descent through pine forests and past small Sherpa hamlets. You’ll follow the Junbesi Khola down to the airstrip town of Phaplu. In the evening, enjoy a final “farewell dinner” with your trekking crew.
- Walking Time: 4–5 hours
Take a local jeep back to Kathmandu (approx. 8–10 hours) or a short 30-minute flight (if available). The drive takes you back down through the hills and river valleys to the capital
